Saskatoon StarPhoenix - -- Power to the people: Bloggers wield media punch

Saskatoon StarPhoenix - network: Darlene Fichter, a data librarian at the University of Saskatchewan and an expert on blogging, says the relationship between bloggers and mainstream media is fast becoming a more complicated one: "At first, mainstream media tended to discount blogs. On the other side, some bloggers have taken the idea that they're the new journalists. Somewhere in between those the truth lies. In 2005, we're asking what is a journalist? We wouldn't have asked that just a few short years ago."

Encyclopedia of Chemical Physics and Physical Chemistry, Volumes 1-3

Readers of K-News have two weeks of open access to a select title or group of titles in each issue. This issue features a title from the Chemistry & Chemical Engineering Subject Area:

This three-volume encyclopedia offers extensive coverage in the closely related areas of chemical physics and physical chemistry. Focusing on both disciplines as interrelated, the Encyclopedia contains a wide variety of information to meet the special research needs of the chemical physicist and the physical chemist and, thus, enables specialists in both fields to conduct interdisciplinary research. Features include definitions of the scope of each sub-discipline, and instructions on where to go for a more complete and detailed explanation. The Encyclopedia is also a helpful resource for graduate students because it gives a synopsis of the basics and an overview of the range of activities in which physical principles are applied to chemical problems.

NAA: Presstime magazine: "Researchers, and a number of newspaper publishers, have for years dreamed of replacing the humble newspaper with a single, ultra-portable electronic device that readers could use to download the day's headlines. Widespread implementation would, among other benefits, do away with the need for newsprint, ink, presses, mailroom equipment and distribution costs more than half of a publisher-s operating expenses.
